Dog Food Industry

So I’m starting with the fact that I love animals.  Any and all… hell, I’d probably risk my life to save a opossum!  I know I have for a dog that got hit by a van in front of me once, on a two-lane road… just stopped half in, half out of the road to save her before she got hit again by oncoming traffic.  Anyhow… on with my rant.

The dog food industry apparently still sees cats and dogs as property.  For my two dogs (one 3 y/o Frenchie and one 9 y/o Puggle), I pay about $60 a month, a piece for their premium dog food.  I’d pay $100 a week ($50 a piece) for a human-grade ultra premium DRY food!!  We pay 2-3 times that bi-weekly on ourselves, right?  Oh I know there are other options, like the RAW diet or cooking my dogs’ meals… but I prefer dry food for my dogs.  It’s difficult to manufacture the correct ingredient dry dog food at home – without having to add supplements that canine’s need in order to stay healthy.  We buy safe, healthy, processed and/or packaged foods for ourselves, our children… why can’t we for our pets?

It’s like the DFI (dog food industry) could care less about our animal’s health and safety because it’s all about numbers!  My dogs are NOT numbers!  They are my KIDS damn it!  For the DFI it’s all amount how little they have to spend to make as much money as they can, and since they are only regulated to a certain extent, if at all, they will and DO throw anything they can into their foods to gain longevity and will add fillers to bulk it all up….

So many different pet foods are hurting our pets!  Those from all around the world, not just the US made brands.  And the reasons they’re being recalled are just appalling!  Phenobarbital?  REALLY???  Please tell me why there would be ANY reason to put this barbiturate in a dog food??  I would hesitate even giving it to my dog for seizures, unless it was a last resort!  It just angers me to no end that we can’t feel safe choosing a dog food by price as well as by recommendation without having to research the company first… I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, dog food should be regulated as if it were for human consumption.  I briefly saw something the other day about 2 men that are starting to make their own brand of homemade dry dog food… think I will look more into them.

Back.

I’m back, it’s been a while.  Sometimes I just don’t feel like doing certain shit and lately it’s been the computer.  Plus my nails needed to be done, they were a bit too long.  I have to psych myself out to go and get them done.  Normally I don’t care for nail polish on my nails but once and awhile I do it to protect them.  They are super hard and break easily, so when I’m doing stuff around my house that may cause them to break, then I will go get that gel stuff on them.  I never used to mind what my nails looked like until I stopped biting them.  Now I care.  Not. sure. why.  Maybe it’s because I spent 33 years with ugly-ass nails!  I do think most women do it to pamper themselves, and they should.  As long as their kids are taken care of and the bills are paid.

You’re here, good.

So you’re here. Hopefully you’ll find yourself laughing more than not; although I’m pretty sure there will be a variety of emotions that people will have if and when they ever read what I’ve written here. Then there’s MY hope that you’ll respect the fact that this is MY blog, MY thoughts, MY opinions, MY beliefs… get the picture? I may generalize, I may speak specifics, I may speak truth, I may be a realist, I may stereo-type, I may misspell, I may ramble, I may use words inappropriately, etc., but just has you made the choice to click on my blog – you can choose to click the X in the corner to leave & move on.

Most of what I will discuss will be me ranting, bitching, venting, complaining, or whatever, but don’t kid yourself… I am VERY aware of who I am and my short-comings, as well as the fact that I am good people, trust that I DO NOT need anyone pointing out the negative to me. So if you’re not interested in reading the ramblings of a mid 40’s female, then just be mature enough to move on. I do tend to call it like it is and can be brutally honest about it.

Personally I don’t tend to get offended. I understand and get that ‘you are you ’cause everyone else is taken.’ Meaning, everyone is different and it’s impossible to make everyone happy. Nor is it possible to agree 100% with any one person about everything. That being said, I will probably cuss often, I will make jokes, one’s that may offend you… just has maybe some of your jokes will offend others. I will make statements based on opinion, experience, knowledge, education, facts – but I could very well say something that I don’t have all the facts on. I will be the first one to admit when I’m wrong and it happens on occasion. It boils down to, if you don’t like my style or are offended by me in anyway… move on to the next blog. I really don’t care if you’re offended, maybe you should figure out why you’re offended instead of getting upset over something a stranger said in their personal blog and NOT to YOU personally.

Not only am I a very opinionated person, respectfully most times, I don’t have a problem stating my opinion when asked. NOTE: My opinion will be based on what I am familiar with on any given subject. I am honest and pretty straight forward as well. Should you choose to tick me off in any detrimental way (anger, sadness, etc), I will speak up for myself and I’ll be more than happy to tell you about yourself too. If you can’t take it, don’t give it. One of the few things my good friends love about me is my ability to speak the truth when asked. For example, a couple of my female friends prefer to go clothes shopping with me, even though they know how much I hate clothes shopping, than their other friends. “Do these jeans make my butt look funny?” Yes sweetie, those jeans do not do your butt justice. Okay, so I’d probably say, “Yes, those jeans make your ass look funny. Maybe you should look for a pair of jeans that actually fit and aren’t the size you think you are.” We all know there’s a difference between skinny jeans and jeans that are just too damn small!! There are way too many people out there wearing jeans that just don’t fit! Either they’re too small or too baggy. Take your time, look for those jeans that fit you, try the shit on at the store…. they’re out there, I promise! Even at the Goodwills and Salvation Army’s!! Macy’s, Target, Ross, Burlington, Walmart too, don’t limit yourself! Anyhow, moral of the story is, don’t ask me a question unless you are going to respect my answer. It may or may not be the answer you’d give if asked the same question. And I’m betting more often than not, it will be different.
I’m a bit tired now. Maybe later I’ll get into some background about myself. Although, I’m kinda deciding if I’d rather just mention history as I go or not… easier to remember the pertinent history in direct regards to what I may be going on about at the time… maybe just start with the basics.

Maybe you’ll return, maybe you won’t. I’ll keep writing either way. BP
